A common problem when you are using Shoutcast as your streamserver is that there is no way getting your meta-data (i.e. title and artist) to the Shoutcast-server, unless ofcourse you are using either Winamp or SAM3 Broadcaster as your playout-system. And frankly, I don’t know anybody who does. And Dalet, although being the defacto standard for playout-systems, does not talk to Shoutcast-servers natively…
If, as I do, you work in broadcasting, you probably are (very) familiar with Dalet. It is possible to have Dalet update a XML-file with new song-information every time a new song is played. Now, wouldn’t it be nice to have this information posted to a Twitter-account, let’s say as a sort of archive of playlists?
Let me begin to state that the code used for this example is quite similar to that used by so many ‘not-no-neat-websites’ to produce as many popups as possible. Using this code puts you at risk to be blocked by adblockers and the lot. Also, wether or not the websites open in new windows or new tabs is not something you can control, as that is so-called ‘client-side behaviour’.
As you have probably noticed, MusicLab hasn’t made it’s debut as downloadable software. Although we deeply regret that, we had no other choice. At this time, Jaap is the only one working on software-projects like MusicLab and as he is currently occupied with projects outside the scope of Sm@uce, all development has been put on hold.
Our sincere apoligies, but we’re confident that we will be back anytime soon!
We had to push back the release-date for RC1 upto September 1st, 2008. We ran into some specific problems with the admin-interface and rather then releasing it without the admin-interface or a broken one, we’ve decided to not release it until the admin-interface is properly finished. We are sorry for the inconvience, but bare with us, as it shall be worth it…
Today, we released the first online demo for MusicLab ©. Although development is still going strong on the project, we feel confident that the current versions is ‘finished’ enough to put online for you to test. It’s not completely functional though, admin-functions are disabled, as are file-uploads above 100 Kib per file.
Now that we have the new website up and running (well, for the most part anyway), we can start transferring all loose projects to this new website
WordPress:
All Wordpress-plugins by Jacob Fresco will be moved here. Any development will be done by Sm@uce – Coalition of Creators. As Jacob is a founding member thereof, that shouldn’t be much of a problem. All WordPress-related stuff can be found here.
MusicLab:
MusicLab nears its completion, beta-testing has begun and we’re confident that we’ll finish on schedule. For more info, please check this page.
